Dyfed Powys Police has announced that the John Burns Foundation will be the primary sponsor of the Chief Constable’s Great Welsh Marathon Run in April of next year. This announcement comes as part of a bigger initiative centred around highlighting domestic abuse cases in the area, with a particular focus over the Christmas period where an increase in incidents sadly occur more frequently.
John Burns , the founder of pet food company Burns Pet Nutrition, handed over his sponsorship cheque at the John Burns Foundation. Dyfed-Powys Police has recently launched a campaign aiming to empower victims to take the first step in seeking help as it works to eliminate domestic abuse from its communities.
John said: “This is an incredibly important cause and something we’re keen on supporting, especially if it helps raise awareness over the festive holiday period. We want to help highlight the support available to any victims in the community and make them aware of the incredibly brave first steps they can take to ensure they stay safe at home."
Chief Constable Dr Richard Lewis said: “As a police officer I’ve seen the corrosive impact that DA has on society and I’ve seen the positive impact that agencies such as Women’s Aid have on survivors too. At Dyfed Powys Police, we’ve set ourselves the ambitious goal of eliminating Domestic Abuse, but we can’t do that alone. It’ll take a whole team effort between the public, police and other agencies and charities to achieve it.
“I’d like to thank the John Burns Foundation who have kindly agreed to act as ‘Lead Sponsor’ for my challenge. They’ve done so much great work here in Wales and this is the latest example. Their donation of £500 gets us off to a great start.”
