Community shocked after 'concerning' stickers put on cars at Rainworth health centre

Residents have expressed their shock after "concerning" stickers were placed on cars in disabled bays in a Nottinghamshire village. Over the last two weeks stickers have been placed on car windscreens parked in the disabled bays at Rainworth Primary Care Centre, with the text on the bright blue stickers stickers stating: "park elsewhere" and "stupidity is not a handicap".

It is not clear why the stickers have been placed on cars, as some of the cars affected do have blue badges, local residents have said. Speaking of the situation, Darryll Williams, 59, of Rainworth said: "That's not acceptable is it.

"Obviously they have no life if that's what they are doing, especially if the cars have blue badges and are allowed to use those spaces." However, Darryll added that he might agree if the stickers were being placed on cars that should not be parking in disabled bays.

A 50 year old man in Rainworth that did not wish to be named said: "I didn't know that was happening, I haven't seen anything. It's quite sad isn't it really that people are taking time out of their day to do that."

Retired resident, David Holland, 67, said: "I don't agree with it at all if it's happening to cars that have blue badges and should be there, but I do get fed up with people parking wherever they want without a badge.

"People who are not disabled should not park there, but if someone is parked there with a badge and the right to park there then don't put silly stickers on the car." David added: "They need a camera there."

A retired man in his eighties said: "That's awful, as people with badges really need them, especially us older ones. It's not right, that is an antisocial issue."

Another resident who did not wish to be named said: "It is concerning to have it going on. I can't believe someone is using their own time and money just to upset other people."

Speaking about the issue Councillor Yvonne Woodhead, representing Rainworth South and Blidworth, said: "It is troubling, as you cannot always see a disability.

"You don't get a blue badge easily, you have to prove you have a disability to get them. So if someone is going around doing that then someone must have a grudge, it's totally unnecessary."

She continued: "If someone is using a blue badge that shouldn't be using a blue badge then there are ways to report it properly. There's no point in putting stickers on people's cars if you don't understand what problem they might endure and there's a whole rife of issues out there that people are dealing with.

"I think it's sad that someone is taking it upon themselves to do things like that. Having a blue badge makes life a bit easier for some people. "
