Adenovirus infection, the common respiratory virus that causes mild cold-and flu-like symptoms, has been associated for the first time with blood clots and low platelet levels in the body. The findings of the study were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
The research presents case reports of two patients shedding new light on the virus and its role in causing an anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4) disorder.
