For the first time since the end of the 2018 season, the Washington Commanders will be without either Montez Sweat and Chase Young. The Commanders traded their starting defensive ends last week ahead of the NFL trade deadline.
While Casey Toohill and James Smith-Williams are expected to replace Sweat and Young in the starting lineup, a pair of rookies should also see playing time.
And, for the first time this season, fifth-round pick K.J. Henry is active against the New England Patriots.
Washington’s inactive players on Sunday include starting wide receiver Curtis Samuel and rookie guard/center Ricky Stromberg. Both were injured in last week’s loss to the Eagles.
Here are the Commanders’ inactives for Week 9:
- No. 4 Curtis Samuel
- No. 26 CB Tariq Castro-Fields
- No. 53 C Ricky Stromberg
- No. 62 T Alex Akingbulu
- No. 74 C Nolan Laufenberg
- No. 80 TE Curtis Hodges
- No. 86 WR Mitchell Tinsley
Akingbulu and Laufenberg were elevations from the practice squad on Saturday.
