The Washington Commanders have a simple plan of offense with Taylor Heinicke at quarterback: Run the ball, dominate time of possession, involve Terry McLaurin and keep Heinicke out of third-and-long.
The strategy has worked over the past month. The Commanders have won six of their last seven games, including five wins with Heinicke under center. While Heinicke hasn’t put up big passing numbers, he’s been mostly good on third down, which has helped Washington dominate the time of possession battle.
In Sunday’s 19-13 win over the Atlanta Falcons, the Commanders again leaned on their running game as Brian Robinson Jr. rushed for a career-high 105 yards as the Commanders outgained the Falcons 176-167 on the ground.
Heinicke completed 14 of 23 passes Sunday but did throw two touchdown passes in the win.
