Commanders to Honor UVA Shooting Victims With Helmet Decals

The Commanders plan to honor the lives of three Virginia football players by wearing a set of helmet decals during this Sunday’s game against the Texans.

Virginia wide receivers Lavel Davis Jr. and Devin Chandler and linebacker D’Sean Perry were killed Sunday night in a shooting after returning Charlottesville from a group field trip to see a play in Washington, D.C. Cavaliers running back Mike Hollins was in critical condition as a result of the shooting, but has been recovering well at a Charlottesville hospital.

UVA canceled Saturday’s football game against visiting Coastal Carolina in the wake of the shooting.

When Washington take the field in Houston on Sunday, the team’s helmets will display the Nos. 1, 15 and 41, which were worn by Davis, Chandler and Perry respectively. The Commanders wrote in a brief statement on Twitter, “Our hearts are with @UVAFootball and the UVA community affected by the tragedy.”

The Commanders (5–5) will take the field against the Texans (1-7-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m ET.
