The Washington Commanders were busy on Thursday. Early in the morning, the Commanders sent a conditional seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for kicker Cade York.
Later in the morning, Washington sent shockwaves across the NFL by trading third-year receiver Jahan Dotson, a former first-round pick within the division, to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Buried within those moves was the Commanders releasing kicker Riley Patterson and signing veteran safety Sheldrick Redwine. Redwine, 26, played collegiately at Miami (Fla.) and was a fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2019.
Redwine bounced around, spending time with the Browns, Jets, Panthers, Colts and Dolphins, but he was in Dallas last season with current Commanders head coach Dan Quinn.
On Friday, Washington made another move, releasing center J.C. Hassenauer—who it signed last week—and signing center Cameron Tom. Tom, 29, is an eight-year NFL veteran who has played with the Saints, Dolphins, Eagles, and Chargers.
The Commanders play their final preseason game on Sunday against the New England Patriots and most of the starters, if not all of them, are unlikely to play.
