A contestant from Swansea admitted she “misread the situation big time” after she turned up for an episode of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me dressed in a cheerleading outfit.
The popular dining show, which is now in its 47th series, is based in Swansea every night this week, with five local contestants all squaring off against each other in a culinary battle in the hope of winning the £1,000 prize.
On Wednesday night’s episode all five turned up dressed for the part - well, sort of.

On a previous episode it was agreed between them that they would all wear their favourite outfits.
Anamika, whose turn it was to host the evening, wore a smart and elegant red dress. Rachel turned up in a white top and black jeans, Luke arrived wearing blue jeans and a stripy shirt (which was maligned as being something borrowed from his grandfather), while Chris showed up in a rather dapper suit.
Bethan, however, shocked the others when she walked into view wearing a purple, white and black cheerleader’s outfit. One of her rivals said ‘wow’ and everyone, including Bethan, burst out laughing.
“So that’s your favourite outfit?” asked a puzzled Anamika.
“Yeah,” replied a sheepish Bethan.
She went on to explain: “I thought the dress code was your favourite outfit, not dressed really nice. So I have misread the situation big time.”
The episode was a hit with viewers it seems, with one commenting on social media: “You’ve never seen a more awkward episode of Come Dine with Me - love it.” Another viewer posted: “Watching Come Dine With Me makes me so happy.”
As for the dining experience itself, Anamika made a shami kebab for starters, a Lucknowi mutton biryani for the main dish, and an Irish cream cheesecake for dessert.
With three of the five Swansea episodes now aired, Luke is in the lead with 28 points out of a possible 40, followed by Rachel with 27. Anamika, despite a strong start with a very well received starter, is currently in last place with 25.
Come Dine With Me in Swansea concludes on Thursday and Friday evening at 5.30pm on Channel 4.
