Come Dine With Me contestant caught lying about whether she actually made the food herself

A woman appearing on Come Dine With Me was caught out by her rivals when she lied about whether she’d actually cooked a key part of her meal.

The hit culinary reality show has been based in Swansea this week, with Bethan, Rachel, Luke, Anamika and Chris all battling it out for a £1,000 cash prize.

On Friday night’s final episode, it was Bethan’s turn to host the evening and serve up a three-course feast in a bid to claim victory.

She picked ‘space’ as her theme for the evening, which brought about endless puns such as the food being “out of this world” and so tasty that it would “send guests to the moon”.

The reality, unfortunately for Bethan, was different.

For her starter course, she served up cream cheese and chive roasted pepper asteroids. For the main course she conjured up something called chilli and garlic shrimp lunar linguine, while for dessert she prepared a galactic space cheesecake.

The starters went down well (although none of it remotely resembled an asteroid) but the dessert was heavily criticised for being too runny and lacking the more solid texture and consistency that one would expect from a cheesecake.

It was the main dish, however, which caught out Bethan.

Addressing the camera in the kitchen, she said: “If my guests ask me if I made this pasta myself I’m going to tell them yes because I’m a liar. They’re are not going to know until they see this afterwards.”

Ah-haaaa......but Bethan did not contemplate the inquisitive nature of her fellow contestants.

While eating the main course, Luke asked Bethan: “Did you make the pasta yourself? That’s what I’m curious about.”

Bethan sheepishly replied “yeah”.

Then a suspicious Rachel chimed in by asking: “Did you boil the pasta or did you physically make your own?”

Again, Bethan replied sheepishly with a “yeah”.

“No, which one?!” asked Rachel, to much laughter. “Is it something that you have actually made yourself?”

Bethan, horrified, said “how can you even ask that?” before realising the game was up. “No, I did buy it,” she confessed.

Once that was all cleared up, Rachel asked why Bethan had served prawns with her main dish when the menu said it would be accompanied by shrimp.

“I meant to say prawns, not shrimp - I forgot what I put on the menu to be honest,” said Bethan. Rachel then accused the host of “not delivering what you promised.”

OUCH.

The awkwardness was soon forgotten as all the Swansea contestants got along before revealing the final scores after five days of culinary excellence/mediocrity.

Bethan, with her packet pasta, came in last place with 24 points out of a possible 40. Anamika came in fourth place with 25, followed by Rachel in third with 27 and Luke in second with 28.

Chris, who wowed his guests with a Viking-themed evening on Thursday, took home the £1,000 cash with 33 points, giving him a clear victory.
