In the Colts’ first joint practice against the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday, it was wide receiver Michael Pittman who was able to stand out.
According to Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan, in his training camp notebook, he mentioned that during Wednesday’s practice, Pittman “might have been the best player on the field.”
Nate Atkins of the Indy Star said that Pittman was “dominating” the one-on-ones, scoring touchdowns regularly. Pittman then capped off a six-play, 75-yard drive during the 11-on-11 period with a 35-yard touchdown reception from Anthony Richardson.
“It was awesome,” said Shane Steichen after practice. “And Pitt got around him (the cornerback), the safety was inside, and (Richardson) laid it, and it was perfect. Hit him in stride. It was awesome to see.”
Since being drafted by the Colts, Pittman has provided the offense with a reliable presence in the passing game. In each of the last three seasons, he’s recorded at least 88 receptions and surpassed 1,000 yards in two of the last three years–just missing out in 2022.
With the talent that is around Pittman this season, which includes a backfield featuring Anthony Richardson and Jonathan Taylor, along with Josh Downs in Year 2 and the addition of AD Mitchell, the opportunity for even more playmaking opportunities could be present this season.
