Some good news for the Indianapolis Colts is that a number of starters were back on the practice field on Thursday.
However, wide receiver Alec Pierce was also added to the injury report after not being listed on Wednesday.
Pierce is listed on the report with a shoulder injury and did not practice on Thursday. As of now, there are no further details about the injury.
On numerous occasions this season, Pierce has provided the offense with a big play spark, emerging as one of the best downfield threats in football this season.
Overall, Pierce has caught 13-of-22 passes for 368 yards at a whopping and league leading 28.3 yards per catch with three touchdowns. In addition to being a big play threat, a goal of Pierce’s during the offseason was to showcase his versatility and ability to make an impact in other parts of the field–something we saw specifically from him in the Colts’ matchup with Green Bay.
With that said, the big play has still been Pierce’s bread and butter. On pass attempts of at least 20 yards, Pierce’s six receptions are tied for the most in football as are his 295 receiving yards on those plays. And on those six receptions, Pierce is averaging nearly 50 yards per catch.
We will see if Pierce returns to practice on Friday. Also on the injury report at the receiver position are Michael Pittman and Josh Downs, although both did practice on Thursday–Pittman in a full capacity and Downs in a limited capacity.
