On game days, teams are only permitted to have 48 players active, so with Colts making two practice squad elevations on Saturday, seven players have to be inactive.
Richardson did practice in a limited fashion all week and was originally listed as questionable on Friday. However, on Saturday afternoon, the team announced that he was downgraded to doubtful. So Joe Flacco will get the start against a Jaguars secondary that ranks 30th in yards per pass attempt allowed.
Unfortunately, Richardson won’t be the only key starter that the Colts will be without. Ryan Kelly did not practice at all during the week as he continues to deal with a neck injury, and like Richardson, he was downgraded from questionable to doubtful on Saturday before being ruled inactive today.
Rookie Tanor Bortolini will start in Kelly’s place just as he did last Sunday, where he impressed in his debut against a good Steelers front.
Jonathan Taylor, Kenny Moore, and Kwity Paye were all ruled out on Friday. Without Taylor, the Colts will lean on Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson against a Jaguars front allowing just 3.9 yards per rush. The depth and cornerback and defensive end will continue to be tested without Moore and Paye.
Lastly, Blake Freeland has been inactive in each game this season. Rookie Matt Goncalves is the Colts’ swing tackle off the bench. Then for the second game in a row, the Colts have listed Anthony Gould as inactive inorder to have tight end Will Mallory available.
Without Gould last week, Goodson and Ashton Dulin handled kick return duties and Josh Downs was the punt returner.
