Despite being in the midst of a three-game losing streak, the Indianapolis Colts still find themselves in the AFC playoff mix heading into Week 11.
This is because, along with the Colts losing games, so are the teams around them in the AFC playoff hunt.
At 4-6 on the season, Indianapolis remains just one game out of the final wildcard spot, trailing the 5-5 Denver Broncos. Tied with the Colts are the Bengals at 4-6, followed by the 3-7 New York Jets.
According to NFL.com, the Colts playoff chances sit at 24 percent at the moment. A win on Sunday against the Jets would actually provide a big boost to their playoff odds, jumping Indianapolis up to 41 percent.
A loss, however, may be the final straw to any sort of playoff hope that remains, with the Colts’ playoff chances at that point dipping to just 14 percent.
“I still think we’re in the thick of it right now, with our record,” Shane Steichen said via the Indy Star. “It’s not over yet. We’ve got a great opportunity this week against the Jets.”
The Colts made the move at quarterback to Joe Flacco because, as Steichen put it, he gives them the best chance to win. That, however, hasn’t translated to the field. The Colts are just 1-3 this season in games Flacco starts, and over the last two weeks specifically, he is responsible for six turnovers and the offense has scored just 26 total points.
But even so, Steichen has already confirmed that Flacco will again get the start this Sunday versus the Jets. Steichen would note Flacco’s “veteran leadership” and that there is a process taking place with Richardson.
However, more than anything, both on and off the field from the outside perspective, there are questions and not really many answers to what that process is or how things are going to improve on offense.
