Colts select OT Bernhard Raimann in latest Mel Kiper mock draft

In Mel Kiper’s latest mock draft for ESPN, the Indianapolis Colts selected former Central Michigan offensive tackle Bernhard Raimann.

There is no denying the Colts will be on the search for a potential long-term left tackle when the 2022 NFL draft arrives at the end of the month, and Raimann appears to be a solid fit for the offensive line.

Here’s what Kiper had to say about the pick:

There’s a drop off in the tackle class after the top four guys, but there could be a run of them in Round 2. Raimann, who started his college career as a tight end and moved to tackle in 2020, has the physical tools that will entice teams. He needs to be coached hard. This is the Colts’ only pick in the first two rounds, so they have to make it count.

At 6-foot-6 and 303 pounds, Raimann measured in with 32 7/8-inch arms during the pre-draft process. He’s a bit older at 24 years old but his movement skills show plenty of promise as a high-upside pick at left tackle.

In this mock draft, three quarterbacks went ahead of the Colts’ pick at No. 42 overall. That included Malik Willis to the Carolina Panthers (No. 6), Kenny Pickett to the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 20) and Desmond Ridder to the Seattle Seahawks (No. 40).

The Colts can go in several directions with their first pick of the draft. They could find immense value at the wide receiver position in players like George Pickens, Alec Pierce and Skyy Moore.

How the Colts go about using their first selection is a mystery at this point but it isn’t outside the realm of possibilities that this scenario takes place.
