The Indianapolis Colts removed tight end Will Mallory from the active/PUP list, the team announced Monday.
Mallory, who was a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft, missed most the spring workout program after suffering a foot injury during rookie minicamp. He started camp on the PUP list and missed the first three practices.
Mallory will be entering a crowded tight end room that involves some big competition. Mo Alie-Cox, Jelani Woods and Kylen Granson are all strong locks to make the roster while Drew Ogletree also will be competing for a spot after being cleared from his ACL rehab, which caused him to miss his entire rookie season.
The fastest tight end at the 2023 NFL combine, Mallory will be competing for the flex tight end role, which likely belongs to Granson at the moment.
In 2022, Mallory recorded 42 receptions for 538 yards and three touchdowns for the Miami Hurricanes.
As of this writing, running back Jonathan Taylor (ankle) and defensive end Tyquan Lewis (knee) are the remaining players on the PUP list.
