The Indianapolis Colts announced Saturday that they have placed linebacker Jaylon Carlies on injured reserve.
In addition to this roster move, the Colts also waived running back Evan Hull, which opened up roster spots to activate defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and linebacker Cameron McGrone from injured reserve.
Carlies exited the Colts’ Week 7 matchup with Miami in the first half with what was listed as a fibula injury on this week’s injury report.
Without EJ Speed in that game, in addition to filling his usual role as one of the Colts’ three linebackers when in their 4-3 alignment, Carlies was also the nickel linebacker next to Zaire Franklin.
As he has done for much of the season, Carlies made the most of his snaps, totaling five tackles, one of which was for a loss, and a sack before leaving the game.
Coming into that Week 7 game, Carlies was one of Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded rookies through six games.
Without Carlies in the mix, presumably, as we saw last week, Grant Stuard will be the SAM linebacker when in base with Speed–who is a full-go this week–and Franklin the nickel linebackers per usual.
At a minimum, Carlies will have to miss the next four games on injured reserve.
