Colts optimistic Anthony Richardson returns in Week 4

The Indianapolis Colts will be without rookie starting quarterback Anthony Richardson on Sunday when they visit the Baltimore Ravens, but there is optimism that he won’t be out long.

Richardson was ruled out for this matchup Friday due to a concussion he suffered during the first quarter of the Week 2 win over the Houston Texans. He failed to log a practice this week while in the league’s concussion protocol.

However, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Colts are optimistic that Richardson will be able to return in Week 4 when the Colts host the Los Angeles Rams at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 1.

The Colts will certainly make sure Richardson is healthy enough to return and after not practicing for the entire week, it isn’t clear how close the rookie is to taking that first step.

Regardless, the Colts will be trotting out Gardner Minshew for the first start of his Colts career on Sunday against the Ravens with the hope that Richardson will be able to return in Week 4.
