The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that they’ve made an addition to the practice squad, signing running back Salvon Ahmed.
The corresponding move to make room for Ahmed was that the team released kicker Spencer Shrader.
Ahmed went undrafted out of Washington in 2020. He has spent time with the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and the Denver Broncos most recently, appearing in 38 games, which includes making four starts.
At 5-11 – 197 pounds, Ahmed has 168 career carries, averaging 3.5 yards per attempt with five touchdowns. He’s also been relatively active in the passing game, catching 43 of his 57 career targets at 7.4 yards per catch with another score.
On special teams, Ahmed has played 120 total snaps, primarily across three different phases.
The Colts are currently dealing with a few injuries at running back. Jonathan Taylor has missed the last two games with a high-ankle sprain and his status for this week is still unknown.
Head coach Shane Steichen also mentioned before Wednesday’s practice that Trey Sermon is dealing with a knee injury.
Also at running back the Colts have Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull on the 53-man roster.
