Indianapolis Colts defensive end Kwity Paye has been battling a nagging ankle injury for the better part of the last two months but seems ready to return in Week 13 against the Dallas Cowboys.
Paye suffered the ankle injury during the Week 5 win over the Denver Broncos. He made his first return in Week 9 against the New England Patriots and played in Week 10 against Las Vegas Raiders but wound up re-aggravating it. He was held out and then nearly made it back for the Week 12 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he wasn’t quite ready yet.
Now, after a week of full practice for the first time since initially injuring the ankle, Paye is ready to go.
“Kwity (Paye) had a good week of practice. Excited for him. He’s working hard. So yeah, looking forward to Kwity being back there,” said interim head coach Jeff Saturday.
The Colts have needed Paye’s presence for a while now. The defense has held up, but they’ve missed his ability to set the edge against the run while adding another layer of pass rush to the front four.
It isn’t clear if Paye will be on a pitch count at all but considering he practiced in full all week, there’s a good chance he returns to his regular role.
The Colts will need all the help they can get on that side of the ball when they visit a Cowboys offense that has averaged over 33 points per game since Dak Prescott’s return in Week 7.
