Colts’ Jonathan Taylor to have thumb surgery, could miss 2-3 weeks

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor will undergo surgery on his thumb injury and is hoping to return in 2-3 weeks, first reported by James Boyd of The Athletic.

Though Taylor played his typical role and finished the game on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, taking 15 carries for 91 rushing yards and two touchdowns, this injury is serious enough to require a procedure.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also reported that no decision has been made as to whether Taylor would be placed on the Reserve/Injured list, which would require him to miss at least the next four games.

Losing a star like Taylor is never beneficial for the offense, but the Colts have arguably the best backup running back in the NFL. Zack Moss is still 10th in rushing yards despite Taylor having returned to his starting role for the better part of the last two months.

Moss will be expected to carry the load again with Taylor missing time, and his next matchup comes against the Tennessee Titans, a team he torched for 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns in Week 5.
