Colts fill practice squad opening brining back K Spencer Shrader

Back-and-forth and back-and-forth. The Indianapolis Colts announced on Monday that they’ve signed kicker Spencer Shrader back to the practice squad.

After signing running back Evan Hull to the 53-man roster over the weekend, the Colts had an opening on their practice squad.

In the last week alone, Shrader has been signed to the Colts practice squad twice and released once to make room for the addition of Jack Wilson. The week before that, Shrader was again released to make room for running back Trent Pennix at that time.

Schrader joined the Colts after he went undrafted this past April out of Notre Dame. He spent the offseason and training camp with Indianapolis, appearing in two preseason games where he made all four extra points and both field goals, including one from 50-plus yards.

With Matt Gay already on the team, making the 53-man roster was never in the cards for Shrader. However, after being released during cutdowns, he was signed to the practice squad and elevated for the team’s Week 1 matchup with Houston while Gay was sidelined with an injury.

Schrader didn’t attempt any field goals in that game, but was 3-for-3 on extra point attempts.

The Colts practice squad is now at full capacity for the time being.
