Indianapolis Colts’ second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson ranked among the best in quarterback rating following Sunday’s games.
These rankings are subject to change with Monday night football still having to take place, but as of now, Richardson has the second-best QBR at 87.7, trailing only Buffalo’s Josh Allen, who had a QBR of 90.1.
Rounding out the top-five is Baker Mayfield, Derek Carr, and Kyler Murray.
QBR is based on four factors: completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdowns, and interceptions.
Richardson finished the game completing 9-of-19 passes for 212 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Bolstering his quarterback rating was his 11.2 yards per attempt, thanks to three completions of 50-plus yards.
For some context around that 11.2 figure, Brock Purdy led all quarterbacks in yards per attempt last season with an average of 9.2.
This certainly wasn’t a perfect performance by Richardson, with there still being accuracy issues at times, including twice on passes to AD Mitchell that could have been touchdowns.
However, having said that, in his first start since Week 5 of last season, you cannot help but be encouraged by what Richardson showcased. We saw that high ceiling he possesses on display, along with the ability to make big plays happen when the team needs it.
In addition to ranking second in QBR, Richardson also ranks sixth in expected points added (EPA) per dropback and first in yards per attempt.
