Colour expert shares best shade to paint your bedroom for relaxing night's sleep

Did you know the colour of your bedroom walls could be messing with your sleep and relaxation?

Well, an expert has revealed all, sharing the best colours to pick for your home.

Tash Bradley, director of interior design at Lick Paint, appeared on the Welcome Home podcast earlier this month.

Tash has always been involved with interior design thanks to her mum, but took a slightly different approach to it by becoming a colour psychologist.

Colour psychology looks at how certain colours affect our moods, energy levels and even our reactions to certain things.

Tash has a clear enthusiasm for this topic, sharing how she loves to help people “transform houses into homes that they love”.

She revealed that colour is a “powerful” tool in influencing how we act and move through colour association.

This can be particularly important in the bedroom, especially for those who struggle with getting a solid sleep cycle.

Many may assume that plain white walls are a safe bet or that dark colours mean better luck falling asleep, but according to Tash light blue is actually the colour to aim for.

She shared: “Blue is the colour of the mind. The lighter the shade of blue the more mentally soothing, so great for a bedroom.

“The darker the shade of blue, the more mentally stimulating it is. So if you’re doing a home office it’s a really good colour that I love recommending.”

She also advised avoiding dark colours in rooms people spend a lot of time in, as it can be a bit of an energy drain.

“Is it a room that you spend all your day in? If it is, those spaces I’d avoid going too dark in. Dark rooms have such an incredible effect and can be so powerful, but if it’s always around then your energy levels can lack sometimes.”

Tash revealed that pink and red, although similar in shade, actually have completely opposite effects on people.

“Pink, I call it the shoulder drop colour. When you walk into a pink room you naturally relax.

“Red basically stimulates you, whereas pink is softened down with lots of white so it physically soothes you, it’s like a huge cuddle.”

Surprisingly, she also noted that your eyes don’t have to adjust to green and it is a calming, timeless colour that connects people to nature.
