Colorado Dentist in Jail After Allegedly Poisoning Wife Asked Fellow Inmate to Kill Cop Investigating Him, Plant Fake Evidence

James Craig (Credit: Aurora Police Department)

James Craig, the Colorado dentist imprisoned for allegedly killing his wife by poisoning her, has been hit with two new charges while in prison. They stem from trying to get a fellow inmate to kill a detective investigating his case.

Prosecutors accused Craig of solicitation to commit murder and solicitation to commit perjury. The accusation doesn't specify who he wanted to get killed but an Aurora police spokesperson confirmed it was a local detective.

Craig has pleaded not guilty to the murder charges and his trial has been delayed indefinitely. His lawyer withdrew from the case on November 21 citing a professional conflict when his client was about to take the stand for the murder. Prosecutors filed the new charges the day after.

Craig had also been charged with smuggling a letter out of jail which asked to make a fake video of his wife asking him to get poisons from her, prosecutors added. And he stands accused of asking an inmate to plant forged journal entries at his home to make it look like his late wife, Angela, had killed herself.

Angela Craig died in March last year of poisoning from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, the coroner said. They had been married for over 20 years and had six children together, with prosecutors calling the murder "atrocious and calculated."
