Colorado experiences some of the nation’s most expensive hail losses. According to the Colorado Division of Insurance, hail damage contributes between 26% and 54% of the average homeowners insurance premium, making roof damage one of the biggest drivers of insurance costs statewide.
Now the state has rolled out a new approach that tackles the problem before the next storm arrives. A newly signed law creates a grant program that will help homeowners install stronger, more resilient roofs built to stand up to hail and wind. State estimates suggest qualifying homeowners could save an average of $82 to $387 per year, although actual savings will vary based on location, insurer, roof type, and individual policy details.
