Collin Morikawa overshadowed his LIV denial with his very weird cereal-and-milk order

This is the online version of our daily newsletter, The Morning WinSubscribe to get irreverent and incisive sports stories, delivered to your mailbox every morning. Charles Curtis is filling in for Andy Nesbitt.

My colleague Andy has written a lot about the golfers leaving for LIV Golf, from Phil Mickelson spewing nonsense to Brooks Koepka heading to the series.

And I’m here today to address a related, but much sillier aspect of something that happened on Tuesday: With rumors swirling about Collin Morikawa perhaps becoming the next golfer to join LIV, he took to Twitter to say: “I’ve said it since February at Riviera that I’m here to stay on the PGA Tour and nothing has changed.”

Then? He finished with this: “Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some cereal to pour in my milk.”

Now, hold on a sec here. We all know it’s cereal first, then milk. How do you know how much milk you need? What if you overshoot? And what if the cereal splashes the milk all over the place (which is why it’s ice cubes first, THEN water in a cup!).

This is all other golfers could talk about. Justin Thomas was worried. Max Homa had questions. Morikawa himself then asked “is there science behind why I shouldn’t pour milk first?”

We need answers. But this is something he’s talked about before. Per the Today Show: “This (was) a huge issue in college rooming with one of my teammates. It’s just what I do. My parents never did it. I don’t know who I picked it up from.”

This may seem silly, but as you can see, it’s very important. And while it’s great Morikawa is sticking with the PGA Tour, this is really what we should be talking about. Cereal first for life.
