A 21-year-old college student suspected of murder in Georgia was apprehended by law enforcement at SUNY Broome Community College in Binghamton, New York. The suspect, Dawensley Astrel, was taken into custody on September 16 after Georgia State University Police issued an arrest warrant for him.

Captain Frederick J. Akshar II of the Broome County Sheriff's Office led the operation to locate Astrel on the college campus. The BCSO received real-time information from Georgia authorities through their crime analysis center, leading to the successful arrest of the suspect.

Authorities discovered that Astrel had provided the college with a false home address, complicating the investigation. Despite this, a coordinated effort between the BCSO and SUNY Broome Campus Safety resulted in Astrel's arrest without incident.

A three-day surveillance operation was conducted by the detective bureau before Astrel was taken into custody. While details of the homicide case in Georgia remain undisclosed, law enforcement had been searching for Astrel for approximately a week before his arrest.

SUNY Broome Community College confirmed that college operations were not disrupted, and there was no threat to students or staff during the arrest. The college emphasized the safety of its community as a top priority.

Astrel, who was registered as a part-time student at Broome Community College and lived off-campus, is set to be extradited to Georgia in the coming week. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies ensured the apprehension of the suspect without further harm to individuals.

Georgia State University Police did not provide immediate comments or details on the case. The specifics of the murder investigation in Georgia have not been disclosed to the public.
