Long-time ESPN draft expert has compared Alabama quarterback Bryce Young to one of the greatest basketball players of the last 10 years in Steph Curry.
Earlier this month, Young announced his decision to forego his final year in college to declare for the NFL draft, with a number of analysts being extremely excited about his potential - with many naming him the most interesting prospect to enter the draft in years.
Young had been dominant in his final two years at Alabama, after winning the National Championship in his freshman year as Mac Jones' back-up, Young took the starting spot the following year and won the Heisman Trophy - college football's MVP award - before following that up with another tremendous season in 2022.
But what makes Young so interesting as a prospect, is his measurables. Standing at just 5'10 and weighing less than 200lbs, Young is one of the smaller quarterbacks to enter the draft whilst being seen as such a talented player for the position.
A quarterback's height has always been an issue for talent evaluators, potentially hampering their ability to see the field, or throw into the middle over their offensive lineman - who could be as tall as 6'8.
That's an issue Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has dealt with and been criticised for throughout his entire career, with the diminutive passer relying on explosive plays to his outside receivers in order to thrive, while defences have been able to take that away from his game over the past three years, leading to his huge decline in play.
But ESPN draft expert McShay is not worried about Young's height, and pointed to a smaller NBA star as a comparison for him.
Speaking on the first episode of his First Draft podcast, he said: "This dude is special. He is so different than any other quarterback I have seen. I see Bryce Young as the next generation kind of guy - he has the ability to do it all.
"He is the Steph Curry of college football and will be in the NFL."
While smaller quarterbacks like Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray have had recent struggles, both have shown that they have the ability to play at an elite level and sustain hits to play in the league. But the worry for Young is that he is significantly slighter than the aforementioned, weighing as much as 15lbs less than both of the shorter but stockier quarterbacks.
That is something that McShay acknowledges, but states that Young's abilities and feel for the game will see evaluators look past that, and rightly so.
He said: "He told me earlier this season that we was up to 196lbs and plans to be over 200 for the draft. He is a slender guy, I get it. If you are going to talk about a negative aspect of his game, it's his size. Questions will be if he can hold up in the NFL, we have seen smaller quarterbacks like Tua Tagovailoa and Kyler Murray suffer with injuries.
"For me, with Young, throw out the measurables, he is going to be able to avoid contact and always be able to create plays that other quarterbacks can't. That's why I think he's the best of this bunch in this draft."
