There could be additional changes coming to the recently revamped College Football Playoff.
Set to expand to a 12-team field this fall, the College Football Playoff committee is discussing expanding the tournament size to 14, ESPN insider Pete Thamel reported Wednesday.
If the change is implemented, the 14-team bracket would debut in 2026.
The College Football Playoff management committee, made up of 10 FBS commissioners and Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick, discussed the change during a meeting Wednesday in Dallas.
The 12-team playoff debuting in 2024 will guarantee five spots to the highest-ranked conference champions and will give the remaining slots to the next seven highest-ranked teams.
The first round of the 2024 College Football Playoff is scheduled for Dec. 20 and Dec. 21.
