College Football Fans React To Odd Timing of Ohio State’s Walk-On Tryout Announcement

With the college football season now in the books, one of the premier programs in the country announced on Tuesday that it will be holding tryouts for walk-on considerations.

Less than 24 hours after arch-rival Michigan won the 2023 national championship, the Ohio State Buckeyes posted on X that the team would be hosting a meeting for those interested in joining the team for the 2024 season on Feb. 1 at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Ohio State, who started the year 11-0, had their playoff hopes vanquished after losing 30-24 to the Wolverines in the final game of the regular season. The Buckeyes, who enjoyed a solid 11-2 campaign, ended the season in disappointing fashion suffering a 14-3 loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl.

While it is not unusual for teams to hold open tryouts for walk-ons, the timing of the announcement did not go unnoticed by the college football world.

Michigan fans hilariously roasted the Buckeyes for the posting the need for new players so close to their 15-0 championship season, while Ohio State fans lamented the school's questionable scheduling of the news.
