PUNE: Ahead of the monsoon Pune district collector Rajesh Deshmukh held a meeting with the disaster management committee to discuss pre-monsoon preparations.
The collector has directed the administration to be prepared for monsoon and identify the flood prone areas and take adequate preparations. With many development works being carried out in the district, he has directed the administration to take all precautions. With Pune district being in the rain shadow region some areas were getting excessive rainfall.
The meeting was also attended by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) metropolitan commissioner Suhas Diwase, police officer Abhinav Deshmukh and Pune Zilla Parishad chief executive officer Ayush Prasad along with irrigation department and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) officials. Earlier in the week MLC member Neelam Gorhe too had taken a meeting to discuss the pre-monsoon preparations for the division. Pune divisional commissioner Saurabh Rao and five district collectors attended the meeting.
Water logging issues have to be addressed if in case the Pandharpur procession is allowed this week, stated the collector in the meeting. Last two years due to the pandemic there was no annual procession to Pandharpur. Information boards at tourist spots have to be put up ahead of monsoon to avoid mishaps, he said.
Clogged drainage system due to heavy downpour and release of water by the irrigation department was discussed. Encroachments near the river bodies too were discussed in the meeting.
