Coleen Nolan admits she felt 'uncomfortable' by the coronation after her sister Linda spent 20 hours waiting in A&E at the weekend before being seen.
The Loose Women panellists discussed King Charles' Coronation on Monday's instalment of their ITV chat show as royalist Coleen opened up about her conflicting feelings. The 58-year-old self-proclaimed royalist admitted the Coronation was an uncomfortable watch as the NHS struggles and people can't afford food.
The coronation has been estimated to cost anywhere between £50 - £200 million, which has been a cause of debate among the public. Coleen revealed that her sister Linda, who is currently battling brain cancer, had to wait 20 hours in A&E over the weekend before being seen by a doctor.
Speaking on the ITV chat show, Coleen said: "It’s really weird for me because I am a royalist and I’ve always loved the weddings.
"Whenever people have gone, 'They’re a waste of time and it’s a waste of money', I’ve always been very much like, 'It’s amazing and it’s history and everyone’s celebrating' – but actually, through the whole thing this weekend, I felt really uncomfortable, I have to say."
"And that’s because of the state that we’re all in and the economy and the fact that people are struggling to eat," she added.
"My sister who is, as we know, very ill – she had to go to hospital and was in A&E for 20 hours before anyone saw her," Coleen stated. "And, of course, I’m the watching this spectacle going, it’s all very well saying it brought £300m in for that sector [hospitality], but can we please bring that in for the NHS because it’s dying?"
Linda, 64, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 before being diagnosed with incurable secondary breast cancer which then spread to her hip in 2017. In March, the singer appeared on Good Morning Britain and announced the heartbreaking news that the cancer had spread to her brain.
Linda added that while there "isn't much help for brain cancer" she will undergo radiotherapy treatment. The former popstar said that she’s always been open about her treatment, stating: "I just want people to know that’s the situation."
"I've always been honest and I just wanted people to know that's the situation and I'm not giving up, I'm positive. I'm going to lose my hair, again, for the fourth time. My sister said: 'At least you've got some nice wigs now.'
"As usual, my amazing family – I’m back living with my sister Denise and her partner Tom and Maureen has been looking after me for the last two weeks, just with balance issues, getting everything," she continued.
"I've bought a wheelchair, we're getting stuff ready for the inevitable really. It's a scary trip to be on this one."
