Dutton Ranch’s first season wasn’t without its hiccups, but the Taylor Sheridan-produced Yellowstone sequel absolutely held its own in the ratings, and was the among the most-watched scripted series of the 2025-2026 season. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of drama behind the scenes before the onscreen chaos could begin, as the initial showrunner Chad Feehan exited just before the premiere dropped, which co-star Ed Harris played a part in with his complaints about not being utilized like he was told he’d be.
Flash-forward to two months later, when fans learned Dutton Ranch brought in SEAL Team creator Benjamin Cavell to be the new showrunner for Season 2 (and possibly beyond). Not much has been addressed about the creative change by way of the Paramount+ western’s cast, but Cole Hauser spoke up about it with some Rip-roaring positivity that I hope is indicative of everyone’s feelings. Speaking with People, Hauser was asked if viewers will bear witness to a “new side” of his character next season, to which he answered:
