Coldplay will stop recording music as a band in 2025 - and depending on who you ask, it’s either cause for celebrations or news that’ll make you weep.
Frontman Chris Martin shared the news on Radio 2 ahead of tonight’s Christmas Show with Jo Whiley on the station.
He said: "Our last proper record will come out in 2025, and after that I think we will only tour.
"Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then."
The news of Coldplay’s imminent end comes after the band released their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres, earlier this year.

Martin has previously hinted that the band will stop recording at some point. Earlier this year he told Absolute Radio that although he thinks they’ll call it quits after 12 albums, the band will always want to play live together.
He said: “I think in the way that the [Rolling] Stones do, it will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late 70s. That will be wonderful if anybody wants to come.”
Some are devastated by the news:
Well, we knew the day would come sometime. I guess I was just in denial and hoping it would be longer. It's the first time they've put a date on it...

In October the band announced that their 2022 world tour would be as “sustainable as possible”. Electricity will be generated when fans dance on specially constructed “kinetic flooring”, and a tree will be planted for each ticket sold.
Following news of the split, journalist Ben Eltham quipped that they would be net-zero by the middle of the decade:

Given they will likely continue touring, Don’t Let It Break Your Heart.
