An Abilene, Texas man linked by DNA to a 1982 cold case has passed away while out on bond and awaiting trial. The suspect, 66-year-old Billye Brown, was involved in an ongoing cold case murder investigation into the deaths of Susanna Flores Brown and her daughter, Franchesca Antionette Martinez, in March 1982.

The Abilene Police Department discovered the victims, who had been murdered, at a residence on South Bowie Street. Susanna was found with multiple injuries and a lamp cord around her neck, while Franchesca had a phone cord wrapped around her neck. Both victims were believed to have died from strangulation.

During the initial investigation, Brown claimed to have found the mother and daughter dead upon returning home from work. However, further inquiries revealed marital issues between Brown and Susanna, with reports of his controlling and abusive behavior.

The case remained unsolved for 41 years until DNA evidence found in Susanna's mouth led to Brown's arrest in October 2023. Despite being released on bond, Brown passed away in July 2024 while awaiting trial.

The Abilene Police Department expressed condolences for the loss of life but emphasized the dedication of their officers and investigators in pursuing justice. They highlighted the importance of seeking closure for the victims' families and ensuring a safe and just community for all.
