'Coincidence?' - Manchester United and Birmingham fans share Hannibal Mejbri theory after latest outing

Manchester United and Birmingham City fans all agree that Hannibal Mejbri should not have been substituted after the Blues survived a late scare in their win over Reading on Friday night.

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney gave Birmingham the lead with a close-range finish. The West Midlands side added their second through Deeney as Reading crumbled in freezing conditions.

Hannibal played a starring role in Birmingham's third on 36 minutes. The United man's wonderful through ball allowed ex-Red Tahith Chong to round the goalkeeper and slot home.

It appeared as though the game was won until the closing stages of the contest. With his big brother Jude in attendance at St Andrew's, Jobe Bellingham replaced Hannibal in the 76th minute with the match seemingly over.

However, seven minutes later the Royals pulled a goal back as Lucas Joao nodded the ball over the line. Reading continued to push on and made things particularly nervy in stoppage time.

Tom Ince fired home for the visitors to give his father Paul's side some hope but it was not to be in the end. After the match, United and Birmingham fans praised Hannibal with some pointing to his substitution changing the game.

Here is what some of the fans on Twitter had to say.

Friday's match in Birmingham was Hannibal's second since returning from the World Cup in Qatar. The 19-year-old made his debut at the tournament for Tunisia against Denmark in the group stages.

His 10-minute cameo that afternoon was his only game time in the Middle East as the African nation finished third behind France and Australia in Group D to exit the competition. Hannibal's Birmingham side have now moved above Reading and into seventh after Friday's victory.
