Coimbatore: 19-year-old boy held for robbing man of motorcycle, iPhone

COIMBATORE: The Thadagam police on Saturday arrested a 19-year-old boy, who robbed a private firm employee of his motorcycle and iPhone in January, with two of his friends.

The arrested youth was identified as M Manicka Vijay of Avaniyapuram in Madurai district.

R Sivadoss, 27, of SNP Nagar at Pannimadai Pirivu in Coimbatore, employee of a firm at Thennampalayam in Sulur, was waylaid by Vijay, C Praveenkumar of Thiruparankundram in Madurai and S Muniyandi, 19, of Thiruppuvanam in Sivaganga district on January 29 around 12.30am, while he was passing through Kanuvai -Thudiyalur road.

The Mangalam police in Tirupur district arrested Praveenkumar and Muniyandi in connection with a robbery case on February 8. The Thadagam police took their custody for two days on March 8.

“They were working in brick kiln units in Thadagam area in 2020 and were involved in an assault case. After the kilns closed, they moved to Thudiyalur, where they were involved in another assault case. Last year, the duo was arrested for murdering a ganja peddler in Sulur police station limit. After obtaining conditional bail, the duo moved to Mangalam, where they worked in a banian company and stole phones and motorcycles from Mangalam, Samalapuram, Sulur, Palladam, Kovilpalayam and Thadagam areas,” a police officer said.

Police had recovered Sivadoss’s bike and phone from Praveenkumar and Muniyandi. During interrogation, they revealed details about Vijay.
