NEW DELHI: Coco Gauff, the American third seed, demonstrated resilience in the second set to secure a 6-2 6-4 victory against Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine at the French Open on Friday. The win propelled Gauff into the fourth round, bringing her closer to ending a three-year title drought on clay.
Despite reaching the final in Paris last year and winning a claycourt title in 2021, the US Open champion displayed solid form in the first set against Yastremska, who had surprisingly reached the Australian Open semi-finals earlier this year. However, Gauff encountered some challenges in the second set.
