Cocaine Bear: Portrush actor JB Moore on Hollywood debut in blockbuster

Meet the Co Antrim actor making his Hollywood debut in one of the most talked about blockbusters of the year.

JB Moore from Portrush has taken to the big screen starring in 'Cocaine Bear', a comedy horror film directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks.

The film is loosely inspired by the true story of an American black bear that ingested millions of dollars of lost cocaine in 1985.

JB was only a child when he caught the acting bug and his aunt suggested he take up drama to keep himself entertained.

Speaking to Belfast Live, the 26-year-old described his experience walking the red carpet in LA for the first time, working with major stars and what is in the future for his career.

JB said: "I became interested in acting when I was eight or so. I was a noisy kid so my aunt Lesley recommended drama club to expel some energy.

"I kind of realised acting was what I wanted to do from the moment I started.

"I went to NRC Ballymoney, then trained at East 15 Acting School in Loughton, Essex - I had a great time at both places and learned from fantastic tutors, big shout out to them, I owe them all a lot."

JB plays 'Vest' in Cocaine, one of "three pop-art punks who pop up out of nowhere" as introduced by Margo Martindale's character 'Ranger Liz'.

He continued: "Working with Margo Martindale, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Elizabeth Banks on my first day was incredible. I mean, it’s esteemed character actress Margo Martindale!

"They were all such a pleasure to work with, as was everyone in the cast and crew. It was a huge honour to be a part of one of Ray Liotta’s final films. A true legend."

JB added that it was also "a blast" to work with up-and-coming actors Aaron Holliday, Kahyun Kim, Scott Seiss and Leo Hanna on the project.

"Also had a great time filming the fight scene with O’Shea Jackson Jr. He’s a real gent. We did all our own stunts too.

"It’s a great ensemble cast, the characters Jimmy Warden created were so much fun to play. Plus there’s a bear on cocaine for us to contend with.

"Director Elizabeth Banks was really wonderful to work with. and I can’t thank her enough for giving me this opportunity," he explained.

On taking to the red carpet in Los Angeles, he said it was a "whirlwind" experience.

"Everyone is taking your photos and yelling out people’s names to get their attention," JB added.

"That being said, the premiere was a great time - finally seeing the finished film after almost two years, and getting to reconnect with everyone, it was such a good night.

"We had so much fun making that film. It’s great to see people are going to the pictures and having fun watching it."

This won't be the last we see of JB as the Northern Irish actor's career is only just beginning to take off.

"You can catch me on Masters of the Air which will be released later this year on Apple TV and the upcoming season of Sex Education.

"I recently filmed a short directed by Natasha Biggs and written by Tommy Tancock called ‘Akimbo. - I saw an early edit last week and it’s another fun project."
