The Chicago Bulls are 3-5 on the season. However, they were very close to being 2-6, as their win over the Toronto Raptors on October 27 was all but lost until the beginning of the fourth quarter. After leading by 19 in the second and being down by 17 in the third, the Bulls pulled it all the way back to force overtime against the Raptors.
Dennis Schroder, who has been having a solid season in Toronto, was more or less clamped by the Bulls, and toward the end of the game, Coby White took it upon himself to guard the German point guard and help lead Chicago to victory.
During a recent chat with Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times, White revealed that Zach LaVine was put on Schroder originally, but he somewhat forcibly took the matchup for himself, noting that “I just wanted Schroder.”
‘‘I had a pretty good feeling [Schroder] was going to be in the play kind of based on what they were doing and the film study I did, and I had been guarding him all game,’’ White said. ‘‘I wanted to be a part of that stop.’’
White’s aggressiveness worked out, as the Bulls pulled out a win in overtime. The young point guard’s leadership skills are clearly growing.
