The decades-long plan to deliver a seaside housing estate in south-eastern Lake Macquarie is finally coming to fruition.
Central Coast-based developer Scape Properties has officially opened its Pinny Beach residential estate for expressions of interest.
A broader public release is expected by the end of the year.
Situated between Caves Beach and Catherine Hill Bay, the picturesque vista was first proposed for residential development more than 30 years ago and has been previously met with public backlash over environmental concerns.
Lake Macquarie City Council approved Pinny Beach's first 86 residential lots in 2009, three years after the suburb was officially named.
However, the development never progressed.
This new 262-lot estate, nestled on 74.6 hectares between the Old Pacific Highway and Scenic Drive, was approved by the council in 2021 when it was owned by Wakefield Ashurst Developments.
Terrigal's Scape Properties acquired the development in 2025 and launched its expressions of interest and Pinny Beach website in May this year.
The approved development application (DA) also contains a lot for future retail, a public reserve, a community lot and land for drainage and a riparian corridor.
On its website Scape describes the Pinny Beach development as "a rare opportunity to deliver a thoughtfully planned coastal community immersed in nature.
"The vision for the project is centred around preserving and celebrating the unique character of the landscape while creating a connected and enduring place to live."
Last December, Scape submitted a modified DA to Lake Macquarie City Council requesting changes to the staged delivery of the development. The DA is pending.
Scape also boasts a 623-lot housing estate at Crangan Bay at the southern corner of Lake Macquarie near Gwandalan.
Scape Properties did not respond to requests for comment.
Pinny Beach is also the proposed starting point of the Caves Beach to Budgewoi Coastal Trail that is on public exhibition until July 17.
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), in collaboration with Transport for NSW, is leading the development of the master plan for the connected trail, which was a 2023 election commitment from the Minns government.
The trail will feature a mix of dedicated pedestrian paths and multi-use trails for both walkers and cyclists through the Wallarah and Lake Munmorah National Parks.
