HARTFORD, Conn. — UConn women’s basketball will have head coach Geno Auriemma back on the sidelines when it faces St. John’s on Wednesday night.
Auriemma has rejoined the Huskies and traveled with them to New York on Tuesday, the program announced. He had missed the last two games against Butler and Xavier to focus on his health after an extended period of feeling unwell.
“It’s been an extremely difficult month for me, and I’ve been feeling under the weather and run down,” Auriemma said last Tuesday. “I thought I was ready to return, but I need a little more time. I’m going to take a step back to focus on my health and will return when I feel ready.”
Auriemma also missed games against Florida State and Seton Hall in December following the passing of his mother, Marsiella.
Associate head coach Chris Dailey took over as acting head coach in Auriemma’s absence, leading UConn to two dominant victories. She has a 17-0 record as acting head coach when filling in for Auriemma. Dailey will still take Auriemma’s place in the postgame press conference following Wednesday’s game.
The game against St. John’s at UBS Arena will tip-off at 8 p.m. on SNY.
