Veganuary can seem a little daunting to those trying it for the first time. As the idea of going vegan for an entire month looms ahead, meat lovers in particular might find it difficult to curb their meat cravings.
Meat alternatives are enjoying a boom at the moment in restaurants and supermarkets alike. Co-op is the latest store to expand its vegan offerings by adding eight new items to its award-winning plant-based range, GRO.
This move by Co-op means shoppers will have even more options this Veganuary to help them enjoy the experience and perhaps extend eating vegan food after January. They will also not be out of pocket thanks to Co-op price-matching its GRO range to meat and dairy equivalents.
This industry-first move announced last summer is a bid by Co-op to end price disparity of vegan food whilst encouraging more shoppers to add plant-based meals to their diets.
Here are the eight new vegan products launched by Co-op that will make your Veganuary even more enjoyable.
1 GRO Fishless Fillet and Chips
The Vegan ‘vish’ fillet is made from plant protein and comes encased in a crispy golden batter. The side of chunky chip-shop style chips and mushy peas will have you double-checking if this vegan meal really is plant-based.
Cameron Rigg, product developer at Co-op, said: “The Fishless Fillet and Chips mimics a real fish and chip experience and it’s a great way for shoppers to try more plant-based food.
“We are confident that this launch will add an authentic British favourite to the plant-based market and we can’t wait to see our customers’ reaction.”
2 GRO No Beef Pie
This pub favourite with a vegan twist can be rustled up in the comfort of your own home. The
No Beef Pie is chock-full of tender chunks of plant protein, gravy and covered with flaky golden pastry.
This filling main is a hearty alternative to traditional beef pie and is a super easy way to make a switch to a plant-based diet this Veganuary.
3 GRO Gunpowder Masala Potato Bowl
This spicy curry bowl is a proper winter warmer. Dive into chickpea and vegetable curry served with roasted spicy potatoes and topped with deliciously seasoned chickpeas and served with pilau rice.
4 GRO No Chicken Fajita Wrap
Up your lunchtime game by grabbing this tasty vegan fajita wrap. A chilli tortilla wrap is filled with flame-grilled soy protein chic’n, red peppers, red onion, lettuce, coriander, spicy fajita sauce and creamy mayo.
5 GRO Chunky Fishless Goujons
These goujons are one of the most versatile items on the GRO menu. Goujons, or fish fingers for grown-ups are chunky, vegan goujons in a crispy golden crumb that can be enjoyed dunked in a sauce or slung into a wrap or sandwich for a fun lunch with a twist.
6 GRO Gouda & Coleslaw Sandwich
Most times sandwich fillers are made with regular mayo making eating vegan on the go difficult. Not so with Co-op’s sandwich. This smoked Gouda-style no cheese sandwich is filled with cool slaw and spinach on fibre-enriched malted bread.
7 GRO No Salt Beef New York Deli Salad
If you love meat and worry about missing its taste for an entire month, this US inspired salad is for you. Grab a fork and dive into salted no-beef pieces with mustard and dill potato salad, rocket, and vibrant pickled red onion and pink cabbage.
8 GRO Vegan Raspberry Croissant
Croissants are traditionally made with plenty of butter, however dairy is nowhere to be seen in these stunning breakfast treats. They are so beautiful like works of art, you might hesitate to eat them. Enjoy no-butter flaky pastry and sweet raspberry filling either as part of a continental breakfast, or mid-morning treat.
