Co Fermanagh yoga teacher on her unique new underground cave classes

New unique yoga classes being offered by a Co Fermanagh teacher are offering people the chance to take up the activity in an underground cave.

The Marble Arch Caves are the venue for Genny Brown's new classes, which take place within the millions of years old caves.

The classes have proved hugely popular so far, with more than a hundred yoga fanatics joining the waiting list to join so far.

"I've been teaching yoga for the last 17 years and it's the first time ever that I've taught in a cave anyway," Genny said.

"It's the first time I have ever even heard of it being a thing. Yoga comes from India where there are sacred caves where maybe this type of thing might happen, but I think it's a first for Ireland anyway.

"The cave system is 350 million years old and now it's one of the oldest yoga studios in the world!

"It's a unique experience and it can be very moving actually to teach in such a beautiful location."

Genny added that limited space and the high demand for places meant that a waiting list had to be set up, and eventually a busier timetable.

"We've had four classes so far and it's proving to be very popular, it's been a great success," she said.

"We've kept the numbers to a maximum of ten per class and that's to protect the cave and the environment and also as there is such limited space in the cave itself.

"With that said it does get booked up very quickly given how popular it has become over the last few weeks.

"After the initial success we had a waiting list of 120 people which we had to actually close off. But I'm glad to say now we have opened up more classes to satisfy that demand."
