Co Down parents' tribute to baby boy on his second birthday

On what would be their baby boy Pádraig's second birthday, Patrick and Clare Rogan will spend it celebrating the charities close to their hearts.

After losing their first born son on June 29, 2021, the pair, from Co Down, set out to run annual events on his birthday, to give back to the ward and nurses who looked after them in those dark days after Pádraig's passing.

Raising £8,625.35 in 2022, the Rogans handed over a cheque to the Forget Me Not focus group, a charity which helps bereaved parents. And on Sunday, July 9, they'll host the annual car show and coffee morning in memory of their son.

But it is not just their own baby at the forefront of their minds.

Clare told Belfast Live: "We understand the invaluable work of charities and how they help bereaved parents and their families.

"Heartbreakingly on 13th of January Damien and Riona Grant’s son Ollie sadly gained his angel wings. This year we are supporting the ‘Do it for Ollie’ campaign and all of the money raised will be donated to The Northern Ireland Children's Hospice.

"Over the last four years the hospice provided incredible support to Damien, Riona, Aria, Ollie and Lottie. A place where Ollie was cared for by the most incredible staff and also allowed precious family time together. In addition to this each moment a lovely nurse offered hospice at home care.

"Since Ollie’s passing the Hospice continues to support them and will do so for the next two years with bereavement counselling.

"We started doing the car show last year to mark Pàdraig's birthday. It helps us as his parents to know he is helping different families with their own problems.

"The support has been amazing, and we couldn't do this without the support of Loughinisland GAC for use of their facilities, Martin Sloan, who will DJ and help with the raffle announcement, Fancy Fox Coffee Cart, Roadside Chippy Seaforde, local businesses for raffle prizes and logos for the booklet - and of course our family and friends for helping in anyway they could to make this day possible."
