Clyde unveil Jim Duffy as new manager as he returns to club to succeed Danny Lennon

Clyde have appointed Jim Duffy as their new manager as they seek to stem their horror run of 11 straight defeats in League One.

The 63-year-old is back at the Bully Wee following a successful spell between 2011-2014 before leaving the club to take up the manager's job at Morton.

He replaces Danny Lennon at the helm after he was sacked last week with the club on a losing streak that has left them in the relegation play-off spot in League One.

It is Duffy's eleventh managerial appointment of his career after spells at the likes of Falkirk, Dundee, Hibernian, Morton and, most recently, Ayr United last season.

A statement from Clyde read: "The board is pleased to announce that the managerial vacancy has been filled, with Jim Duffy agreeing to return to the club with immediate effect.

"Jim last occupied the managerial position at Clyde for three years up to 2014 when he guided the club to a promotion play-off spot in League 2."

Chairman Gordon Thomson commented: “I’m delighted to be welcoming Jim back to the club as manager.

"His experience, networks within the game, and enthusiasm for the challenge ahead convinced us that he was the right man for the role.”

The club's statement adds that further details will be announced in the coming days.

Danny Lennon, left, and assistant Allan Moore (SUNDAY MAIL)

Duffy's first game in charge will be away to table-topping Dunfermline on Saturday.

Danny Lennon's assistant Allan Moore had thrown his hat into the ring for the position at the weekend, following Clyde's narrow 1-0 defeat to Airdrieonians, but the Bully Wee board have opted to put their faith in a former boss to work his magic.

Moore said on Saturday : “I’ve spoken to Danny, who is a friend, and he has said if they offer it to me, definitely take it.

“At the end of the day, I’ve been a good manager before – without being big headed I’ve ran teams and I’ve got a bit of experience.

“At this moment in time I’m the interim. If somebody else comes in, or they want somebody else to come in, I’ll walk away with my head held high.

“Myself and Danny had a great five years here, and it has gone a wee bit pear-shaped this season, but we still believed we could turn it around."
