Club chief reveals details of transfer 'offer' amid Nottingham Forest interest in defender

Club president Angel Haro has spoken about Alex Moreno's decision to remain at Real Betis, amid interest from Nottingham Forest this summer.

The left-back was on the Reds’ radar as they put together a squad ready for the challenge of the Premier League, with suggestions a medical was set to be scheduled. But early last month, he publicly spoke about rejecting an offer and opting to stay in Spain.

Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo report Moreno “had a foot and a half in Nottingham Forest, but decided to stay”. And an interview with Haro details how Betis would have gained only around 1m euros in their salary limit, which would have made it difficult to find a replacement of equal quality to Moreno.

"I don't regret that he didn't leave,” Haro said. “It was a low offer. The limit he opened up for us was minuscule, one million euros.

“It seemed good to me that he will stay. I'm delighted to have him with us.”

A fee of 10.5m euros had been mooted for Moreno. The 29-year-old posted on social media about his decision to stay put.

He wrote: "Hi Beticos and Beticas (Betis fans), I wanted to share this message with you all and say that Real Betis will continue being my home this season. But it's certain that the club and myself received a proposal from another club. I am grateful for the important offer I have received but after evaluating it, both Real Betis and I decided to continue walking together.

"The affection from the fans, the sports project and the confidence they have shown me from all levels has led me to put my commitment to Betis. I want to continue growing with Betis and all my effort will be aimed at doing my best to make this season unforgettable again."
