Club 1872 outline 'extreme disappointment' as Rangers beam back at Ibrox ruled out

Club 1872 outline 'extreme disappointment' as Rangers beam back at Ibrox ruled out

CLUB 1872 have slammed Rangers chiefs over the decision not to open Ibrox for a beam back of the Europa League final next week.

The shareholder group released a statement claiming a beam back would be possible for fans to attend while the match is played in Seville.

But the club have reportedly confirmed no such event will be held after Stewart Robertson admitted it was "very unlikely".

Rangers are set to be backed by thousands of supporters in Seville for the final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

But there were hopes among supporters that a beam back could be arranged for fans in Glasgow to gather inside Ibrox for the match.

Now, after the news no event will be held at the stadium, Club 1872 have shared "extreme disappointment" at the stance from the club.

A Club 1872 statement on Twitter read: "We’ve now spoken to several providers who’ve confirmed to us that it’s possible to screen the EL Final at Ibrox.

"Unfortunately we’ve had no response from Stewart Robertson but the club has now made it clear that they won’t open the stadium for supporters under any circumstances.

"We would reiterate our extreme disappointment at this stance. With better planning and preparation this event should have been possible."

Quizzed on a possible beam back event yesterday, managing director Robertson said: "It's very unlikely as most of the staff we'd need to run such a beam back are going to be in Seville so I don't think that will happen.

"As much as we understand the desire of fans to be in one place together to watch it, I don't think that's going to be physically possible."
