A Lanarkshire pub that was recently set on fire in what is suspected to be a deliberate act is set to be sold.
The Bullfrog in Motherwell’s Muirhouse area was the local of Arsenal and Scotland footballer Kieran Tierney and has been up for sale for a number of months.
Interest in the property has been high despite the recent incident and a closing date for offers was set for today (Friday).
Lanarkshire Live revealed back in November last year that the pub situated on Shields Road, and popular with former Celtic left-back Tierney, was to close due to rising energy costs.
The premises were lying empty for months but in April police issued an appeal for witnesses after the place was torched in a fire they are treating as deliberate.
The former pub is being marketed by Scottish Business Agency (SBA), a commercial estate agents, who say the recent fire has done little to deter interested buyers as there is a lack of suitable development land available in the Motherwell area.
Interest in the property is high but the site is unlikely to reopen as a pub following any subsequent sale.
Josh Hill, Director at SBA, said: “We have been instructed on the Bullfrog for coming up close to six months now. An interesting instruction as I know the client well being a local lad myself.
“There are plenty of mixed emotions with the property being subject to suspected arson. Interestingly, it doesn’t necessarily impact the value we think we can achieve as all interested parties are interested from an alternative use perspective subject to planning.
"Basically the land holds all the value, the pub had no trading value due to being forced to close due to rising energy costs.”
Any offers for consideration should be sent to mark@scottishbusinessagency.co.uk or josh@scottishbusinessagency.co.uk before 5pm today (Friday, April 28).
