Olympic speed king Cam McEvoy has called for swimming chiefs to make the 25 metres an official championship event after equalling his unofficial world best time in the exciting splash 'n dash race.

The 31-year-old thrashed his way over one length of the pool in the special exhibition event in the extraordinary time of 9.36 seconds at the Australian short course championships on Thursday night, with the crowd lapping up his show-stealing performance.
